1. What to Bring to Our Spaceships Depots
Your driver’s licence is the one non-negotiable. Yes, you’ll have uploaded a copy through our Online Check-in Portal, but as the Australian law says, the physical licence always needs to be on you while driving, not just on file. It is illegal to drive without a valid licence with you at all times.
If your licence isn’t in English, you’ll need an International Driving Licence or an official translation before you can safely get behind the wheel. It’s best to find a NAATI-approved translator that sorts it all out for you online before you even land. If it is your first time driving in Australia, find our essential driving tips here.
2. How to Get to Spaceships Rentals Depots
However you’re touching down, off a flight, a train, or the last leg of another adventure, getting to your chosen Spaceships depots is straightforward. A taxi or Uber will get you there straight from point A to point B, with Ubers usually being the friendlier option for the wallet. Each of our depot pages has the specific information for your particular launch site, so it is worth a quick look before you arrive.
3. Self-Service & Paperless, But Never on Autopilot
In Spaceships world, everything’s digital, so there’s no paperwork to print or to lose in the glovebox. Your rental agreement is safely stored in our online system, where you can read, sign, and download it as a PDF. If you’d like a physical copy, just ask the crew at the front desk and we’ll get one printed on the spot.
Pick-up and drop-off is self-service, but you’re never flying solo! Your campervan will be ready and waiting, and you’ll get an email the day before telling you exactly which lockbox has your keys. That part doesn’t change, no matter what time you arrive. If you’re picking up during business hours, our crew is on-site and happy to help. For after-hours pick-ups, just follow the simple instructions on the email. Everything will be waiting and ready just as it would be during the day, just with no staff on site.
Your Pre-Flight Checklist - To Do Before Arriving
Three quick things to tick off before pick-up day:
- Complete your Online Check-In in full. This is also where you can add extra accessories or manage any other details on your booking.
- Pay your booking in full. Please do this at least one day before pick up via our payment portal. When you log in, you’ll see exactly what’s owing and how to pay. It’s easy, safe and secure.
- Read your pickup instructions. Check your email inbox (and your spam folder if you find nothing) at least a day before your scheduled pick up. You’ll find step-by-step instructions on how to have the best launch day.

4. Pick-Up Times & When to Contact Us About It
Your booking confirmation shows a pick-up time. Here’s what it actually means:
- 9am-4pm = Business hours (self-service, with crew on-site to help if needed)
- Midnight to 9am = Early after-hours (self-service, no crew on-site)
- 4pm to midnight = After hours (self-service, no crew on-site)
If your pick-up time falls in either after-hours window, you can arrive anytime within it. No staff will be there, but your campervan and keys will be ready and waiting regardless of the hour. The time shown on your confirmation is just how our systems keep things organised.
If you're picking up between 9am and 4pm staff will be onsite or online ready to help or answer any questions you may have. If you want to change your pickup time, head to the Online Check-In Portal.
Flight Delayed or Last Minute Changes?
If you’re running late or want to switch to an (early) after-hours pick-up, please contact us and we’ll sort it. That’s really the only time change you need to flag with us - when switching from business hours to after hours.
5. Want Extra Accessories? It’s Extra Easy!
The moment your Spaceships booking is confirmed, you’ve got the keys (well, digital ones) to our Online Check-In System. Login at any time to update your details (it’s available 24/7 with just your booking number and last name), add an extra driver (free, by the way), or add any of our extra accessories. It’s the only place with our full accessory range - we’ve simply got too many great options to have them all listed on the booking page.
You can come back and tweak things right up until your pickup day with no email confirmation needed. There’s no game over screen, it’s either sorted or it isn’t, and you can check at any time. If you haven't completed the online check-in process before arrival, we’ve got check-in stations ready to go at the depots. Just know that knocking it out beforehand means less time at the counter and more time on the road, so it’s worth doing it ahead if you can.

6. Plan The Best Road Trip (Or Figure It Out As You Go)
No trip is complete without some kind of plan, or at least a direction to blast off in. We’re big fans of apps like CamperMate, which makes finding campsites, dump sites and more easy while on your road trip.

7. Getting to Know Your Ride
Before you hit the road, it’s important to know your way around your Spaceship. It’s important to watch the how-to video that matches your campervan category. The video walks you through all the features clearly so you’ll know exactly what to expect before you even arrive.
If you’re picking your campervan up during business hours (weekdays, 9am to 4pm) and want a crew member to walk you through all the features, just ask! We’re always happy to do a show-around and answer any questions about the campervan or camping and Australia in general.
Vehicle checks: If you’re on Standard or Partial Insurance, our crew will also do a damage check before you arrive. This happens ahead of time with time-stamped photos taken and securely stored. If you want a copy of these, we can send them via email. The same check happens when you drop the campervan off so we can check it’s been returned in the same condition.
On Stress-Free Insurance, there’s no damage check. If something unexpected happens, it’s all covered, no bond or excess to worry about. The only exception is if something dangerous or illegal happens along the way.
8. Take Your Time - There’s No Clock Ticking
There’s no starting gun on a road trip, it’s okay not to sprint out the door of the depot. Once you’ve got your keys, feel free to hang around for a bit. Ask the crew for their opinions on your route or where to head first, or just take a moment to get your bearings before you head off. What’s on offer varies a bit from depot to depot, but the invitation’s the same everywhere - take your time, no one is rushing you out the door.
If you happen to roll back through later in your trip, for a question, a chat or just because you're in the area, the doors always open then too. Outside of those moments, we’re just a free phone call or email away, so don’t hesitate to reach out if anything comes up on the road.
